Description

Sun Disc

This disc is made from black clay mixed with gravels, clays, rushes and grasses collected from the bog. Finished with Lisngunogue slip and willow ash glaze. It is mounted in a black metal frame.

Dia 40cm

Inspired by Seamus Heaney's poem, Bogland

We have no prairies

To slice a big sun at evening-

Everywhere the eye conceeds to

Encrouching horizon.

Is wooed into the cyclop's eye

Of a tarn. Our unfenched country

Is bog that keeps crusting

Between the sights of the sun.
